What Is The Metal Cut to Length Process ?

Cut-To-length, also known as CTL, is a process that creates flat rectangular blanks from larger metal coils. This process begins by uncoiling the metal from a master coil, flattening it and cutting it to the desired length as it moves through the cutting line. Then, the metal is stacked and finished. The finished product is flat and ready for shipping. These sheets can be used for a variety of applications.

Coilfeed's metal cut to length is a common process, and many companies offer a variety of solutions to meet a customer's unique needs. Precision-ground diameters, concentricity and circularity are essential aspects to consider when a cut-to-length metal product is produced. Cylindricity refers to a measurement that is made along a part's entire length. Circularity is a measurement that is made around the entire part in relation to itself. The three factors are similar to flatness and parallelism, but are not identical.

The process of cut-to-length steel is straightforward, and typically requires a flattening process. This process removes stress from the material and provides a uniform thickness. The length of flat steel is then sent down a processing line. The process is typically finished within a few hours, depending on the thickness of the steel and other specifications that the client provides. Flattening is an excellent solution for thin, multiple-sheets-of-metal products that require uniform thickness.

In many industries, metal cut to length lines are the most convenient and productive way to produce flat metal sheets. These cutting lines take metal rolls that have been produced at the mill as coils, uncoil them, and level them so that they can be cut to the desired length. These lines are often used to cut metal to specific lengths for resale purposes, such as sheet-metal products.

Unlike traditional metal cutting methods, cutting to length lines are fully automatic. They require only one operator and perform all of the necessary processing steps. Cutting accuracy is the most important aspect of cut-to-length cutting. A fully automated cut to length line allows you to cut metal up to length at high speeds and with greater precision. You can choose between two types of machines. For thinner and lighter gauge materials, a continuous CTL is the better choice.
